My journey of becoming a photographer began in 2009 while studying abroad in Japan at the Kanagawa Institute of Technology. It was here that I took my first digital photography course, in a culture that was wildly different than my own. I had one year of Japanese language studies prior and a reasonably-priced Panasonic camera. I felt ready. For the next three months, I explored Japan by train with my fellow American students, splitting off and doing our own thing at times—all of us with a camera in our hands.
